Profile

ABILITY (Northants) CIC is a Northamptonshire based community transport organisation. Since 2018, we have been providing regular and affordable bus services, connecting people with places.

Our buses provide a vital link between isolated villages and rural hubs, offering our passengers a chance to get out and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

Product or Service

ABILITY is an on-demand community bus service. This means our buses only travel from places where we have demand from our passengers, cutting down journey times and reducing carbon emissions.

Our buses are available for a small fee to anyone who needs transport. However, we also offer travel completely free of charge for anyone over the age of 65 with a concessionary bus pass.

We provide regular shopping trips to residents living in isolated rural areas, or harder to reach parts of town which are lacking a reliable bus service.

Shopping trips run weekly to the main shopping areas of Banbury, Brackley, Towcester and Northampton. This service includes additional drop off locations allowing passengers to reach their local GPs and medical appointments. Passengers must pre-register to use the service.

ABILITY also offer an affordable PLUS service from 46p/week which allows for pickups from home or a location close to home, assistance on and off the bus, and increased advance booking periods. PLUS service registration also gives priority access to our hugely popular trips, excursions and lunch events around the county.

Social or Environmental Mission

ABILITY exists to improve lives. Our primary mission is to reduce social isolation and loneliness by helping people to get out and about.

We seek to make a positive impact on the lives of every single one of our members by giving them the opportunity to make new friends, maintain their independence, and see a bit more of the world outside their neighbourhood.

ABILITY is more than just a bus service. For many of our members it’s a valuable means of social interaction with others. One of our passengers describes us as a “social hub on wheels”!

We also help to support local business and community groups by linking isolated parts of the community together and increasing footfall on our highstreets. Looking forward, we’re looking to make ABILITY as sustainable as possible by investing in a fleet of electric vehicles, in order to help the country meet its climate targets.

Operating In

ABILITY operates across South Northamptonshire, the South of Northampton, and parts of North Oxfordshire.
